The Records of Erevalon von K. A. Butler

Erevalon is the home of Alexien, the third master of magic, and the records tell of specific events in the history of the Intermedia, the Middle World of magicians. These particular records focus on the lives of six magicians, who unusually lived in Erevalon as a home, at different times and for different reasons. The events often involve confrontations and even battles with the sorcerers and necromancers of the underworld. All are very long-lived, unless they fall in battle, but not immortal.

K. A. Butler has lived in Cambridge all her working life. She worked as a technician in a physical science laboratory of the University of Cambridge. Consequently, she finds science fiction unconvincing as she knows the many ways in which precision machinery, including computers, can go wrong. The Records of Erevalon is about outright magic and was written over a period of thirty years in odd moments; between paid work and looking after family and household.
