This monograph is an attempt to point out the most important achievements of twentieth-century love poetry in Canada and in the United States. It shows to what large extent and with what radical consequences the traditional code of romantic love has been revised and enriched by way of poetry in the context of North American society and culture after 1900. Most particularly, the novelty of this work resides in the comparative approach to the topic, which often serves to shed new light upon time periods and literary movements, as well as upon the works of individual poets, in the two countries.
Carmen Otilia Teodorescu received her PhD from the University of Konstanz, Germany, in 2009. In 2007, she spent eleven months at York University in Toronto, Canada, with a research grant for Re-writing Love from the Gesellschaft für Kanada-Studien e.V.
