Arcangelo Corelli studierte bei G. Benvenuti und L. Brugnoli in Bologna. Er wirkte als Komponist und Violinvirtuose. Man bezeichnet ihn als den Schöpfer des Concerto grosso. Seine Sammlung "12 Concerti grossi" op. 6 erschien 1714 in Amsterdam.
